Studio Funk—Contemporary art for everyone

About Studio Funk
Studio Funk is a participant-led arts initiative that was launched in 2024 with support from the General Inheritance Fund. The initiative is aimed at – and created in collaboration with – young people with cognitive and physical disabilities. Through Studio Funk, we aim to open up contemporary art and make it accessible to more people. We work with artistic expression in both practical and theoretical ways, creating space for participants to experience, explore and influence art on their own terms.

A central part of our work is to highlight and explore issues relating to diversity, power, inclusion, ethnicity and challenging norms within the arts sector, and our ambition is to become a role model in the art world when it comes to accessibility and representation. Through our work with Studio Funk, we have established contact with network organisations and initiatives that work with our target group and its areas of interest. These include NUK: The Network for Universal Culture, the Independent Living Institute, Disabled Refugees Welcome, Farsta; 4inclusion, Kista; Konstskolan Linnea; Franstorps verkstäder, Sundbyberg.

What is Studio Funk?
Studio Funk is a project aiming to create art activities for young people with various disabilities in the Järva area. We will have both a physical studio and digital studio where young people can participate in art and cultural activities.

How Do We Work?
A coordinator from the target group leads the project. 
We collaborate with organizations working in art and culture. 

What Do Participants Do?
Plan, take part in, and produce programs, workshops, studio visits, and audio guides for Studio Funk.
Help to improve accessibility, both at Tensta konsthall and online.
