With Soul Service Tensta konsthall welcomes the public to an evening with music, food and conversations. The overarching theme is shared knowledge of survival and of building structures for care and healing. How can we disrupt the colonial processes and strengthen the emotional and cultural support required to imagine a different world order?The series Soul Service is a part of the exhibition Imagine an after and will take place during the spring 2025. The program is curated by Marie-Louise Richards as part of the course Reconstructions at The Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm in collaboration with Tensta konsthall. In English

As a collective act, poet, playwright, translator and literary critic Athena Farrokhzad leverages the dual nature of language. In response to the Black feminist call and demand for the end of the world as we know it—she will read her poem Brev till Europa (Letter to Europe). The poem will be read in Swedish with translation in English.

Soulfully and with a raw vulnerability and ability to blend deep emotions and multifaceted soundscapes, Asta Diawara(vocals) and Bea Macintosh (bass) offer a live performance that invites the listener into their sonic universe.

Using sound as a critical expression André Taylor, DJ music producer and sound artist will offer a sonic performance exploring how the life-affirming ritual space of house music practice another possible world in the present, prioritizing the sensual and social aspects of sound and as reevaluation of the senses, community and being.

About the participants
Asta Diawara & Bea Macintosh offer equal parts sensuality and raw, unfiltered soul. Seamlessly blending elements of R&B soul jazz and live instrumentation with modern production, smooth vocals, and melodic bass, their performances are timeless and intimate. Weaving narratives of identity, and resilience with the warmth and depth of classic soul. In 2021 Asta Diawara released her debut EP 21 Grams. Her upcoming EP BLEU will be released Spring 2025.
André Taylor is a DJ, music producer and sound artist interested in the emancipatory potential of music. He debuted in 2022 with the sonic fictional album trilogy Emotional Temporalities, and contributed with a sound composition for 5.5706° S, 12.1976° E Sedimentary Myths (2023) by Margarida Waco for the 18th International Architecture Biennale in Venice. His recent release is on the compilation Don’t Look Away–A Fundraiser for Palestine by the record label Holodisc by Ophelia Aasa.
Athena Farrokhzad is a poet, playwright, translator and literary critic. She led the writing school at Biskops-Arnö and in charge of literature at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern. She is currently a visiting professor in the name of Tage Danielsson at Linköping University. Published works include: Vitsvit (2013), Trado (2016), I rörelse (2019) och Åsnans år (2022). This autumn her fifth book will be published by Albert Bonniers förlag.
Marie-Louise Richards is an architect. She leads the experimental courses Reconstructions and the Sylvia Wynter study group at the Department of Research and Further Education in Architecture and Art at the Royal Institute of Fine Arts. Stockholm School of Art. Her work explores "black feminist spatial futures" through architectural and artistic research, curatorial practice, and writing. Together with Cathryn Klasto, she is co-editor of the special issue “Citations” in PARSE Journal (September 2023).
